I am devastated to learn of the shooting at a 4th of July parade in Highland Park, IL -- a suburb just down the road from my home.
I have been to this parade with my family and friends. I have friends, colleagues, and clients who live in Highland Park and the surrounding towns. I have no idea if they were in attendance or if they and their children are safe.
My heart aches for everyone at the parade who hoped to enjoy this joyful holiday time with their loved ones. My heart aches for everyone in our country who has once again been reminded that we are not safe in our own backyards.
I am going to hold my family tighter today in gratitude and sit with the profound sadness I feel for everyone in Highland Park and across the country who has had their lives ripped apart by this type of senseless violence.
