Parent Liaison

Laura Harman.jpg

Laura Harman serves as a Parent Liaison and is excited to work with local, national, and international students and families to answer questions, schedule tutoring and diagnostic tests, and help students navigate the college admissions process to maximize their potential and achieve their goals. Taking time to understand the goals and background of each client, she will advise students and families on the LGC services and plan of action that best fit their individual needs. Laura truly enjoys getting to know students to help them negotiate the paths toward the beginning of their future after high school.

After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree from William & Mary, Laura then pursued her interest in the counseling profession by completing a Master of Education in Counseling degree. During her graduate degree program, Laura worked with students in the career centers of Washington & Lee University and the University of Lynchburg, and she also served as the Assistant Director of the Center for Family Education at the University of Lynchburg. While her husband pursued his graduate degree at Penn State University, Laura counseled high school students and adult clients in the communities surrounding State College, PA. After taking time away from her professional life to raise her three sons, Laura most recently provided counseling for constituents of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Laura has thoroughly enjoyed working with high school students and their families over the past six years through her roles as a committee chair for the Stevenson Band Parent Organization and as the Philanthropy Committee Chair for the Stevenson High School Hockey Association. In addition, Laura is passionate about serving her undergraduate alma mater as a Lead Class Ambassador, Greek Ambassador, Parent & Family Council member, and an Executive Committee member of the William & Mary Annual Giving Board.

Laura and her husband reside in Vernon Hills with their youngest son, who is a high school senior, her mischievous cat, Tempo, and her sweet dog, Ophelia. Her oldest son is a senior in the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University, and her middle son is a freshman at William & Mary double majoring in international relations and economics.

Laura is a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA) and the National Career Development Association (NCDA).
